Poehler To Help SNL Succeed At Prime Time
And maybe she'll get a boost for her series
Amy Poehler has already earned a couple of Emmy nods for her comedic work on NBC. And now she's earning a second spot on the network's prime time schedule.
The former "Saturday Night Live" star will return to the anchor desk for "Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday" in a pair of guest appearances Sept. 17 and Sept. 24. Each episode will start at 8 p.m. ET.
Both episodes of the traditionally Saturday evening variety series will lead into new episodes of her current sitcom "Parks and Recreation." NBC hopes that her re-pairing with Seth Meyers will give "Parks and Recreation" a bit of a boost, especially since the program struggled to find viewers in its shortened first season last spring.
NBC has made some interesting changes to its prime time schedule for the 2009-10 season, including dumping its 10 p.m. lineups in favor of five nights of Jay Leno following his departure earlier this year from "The Tonight Show." Airing six episodes of what had previously been an average-rated special broadcast of "Weekend Update Thursday" is yet another attempt by NBC to defy tradition.
"Parks and Recreation" hasn't really picked up the following the network's other mockumentary, "The Office," has received, despite the fact that both Greg Daniels and Michael Schur are working on both series.
