'House' Loses Original Castmember Jennifer Morrison

And it looks to be James Earl Jones' fault

Some three years after producers decided to shake up the cast a bit and give the original doctors on Gregory House's team smaller roles, one of those doctors is now taking off.

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reports that Jennifer Morrison, who played Dr. Allison Cameron on the Fox hit series "House," has already left the show with her character departing during November sweeps.

The decision to leave apparently wasn't Morrison's, despite recent efforts to give her a beefier role, producers decided that creatively, it was time for Cameron to go. But no need to worry -- Cameron won't depart the same way Kal Penn's character of Dr. Lawrence Kutner did.

"Producers are leaving the door open for Morrison to make a guest appearance later in the season," Ausiello said. "That last point will prove little comfort to Cameron fans, especially since this was the season Morrison's nearly three-year stint on the backburner was supposed to end."

So what's going to happen to Cameron? Be careful, TV Guide magazine has some spoilers, and it involves a guest appearance by Darth Vader himself, James Earl Jones.

"There is a story coming that has a major consequence for Cameron and a direct impact on her role on House's team and her marriage" to Jesse Spencer's Dr. Robert Chase, co-executive producer Katie Jacobs told TV Guide's David Hochman. Spencer, by the way, is remaining with the show.

In the Oct. 5 episode, Jones will visit as an African dictator receiving what is being described as a "controversial" treatment at the hospital.

"Cameron's reaction to that is that she needs to separate from her husband and marriage and proximity from the hospital," Jacobs said.

The move to remove Morrison from the payroll might be a blessing in disguise for Cameron. With House's team expanded so greatly with the addition of characters played by Peter Jacobson and Olivia Wilde, there hasn't been a lot of lines for Cameron.

It will now allow Morrison to pursue other projects, potentially those in film. Earlier this year, she had a small role in J.J. Abrams' new "Star Trek" film as the mother of Capt. James T. Kirk. And she's currently filming the movie "Warrior" with Nick Nolte and "Star Trek: Nemesis" actor Tom Hardy.

Jacobs made it clear that the final decision on what happens to Morrison's involvement with the show is still up in the air.

"If I wanted to make an announcement that Jennifer was leaving the show, I would say that," Jacobs told TV Guide. "The fact is, we still don't know how the season is going to end for Cameron, or for Jennifer."

However, Jacobs did confirm that we'll stop seeing Morrison beginning by the ninth episode of the current season.

"House" premiered Monday to boffo ratings, averaging a 9.5 rating/14 share in Fast National overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co., more than 20 percent better than its season average last year, and nearly 8 percent better than last season's premiere.
