NBC Taken To Court ... By Font Bureau
No kidding. Apparently the fonts used to market NBC shows, including ones you may see on this page, are not legal
The Peacock might find a hard time attracting viewers, but one thing's for certain: The people at The Font Bureau Inc. are watchers.
And now they're suers.
Font Bureau filed a suit in U.S. District Court in New York asking for "no less than $2 million" following claims that NBC Universal used trademarked fonts they didn't have the right to utilize.
The fonts include Antenna, Bureau Grotesque and Interstate, according to Cityfile, and have been used to help promote shows like "Saturday Night Live" and "The Jay Leno Show" through a number of different media, including Inside Blip.
According to the suit, NBC purchased a single typeface license -- large enough to be used on a single computer -- and not only copied the fonts to a bunch of computers within the company, but also started using it for advertising materials. Oops!
Because of the move, Font Bureau said market confusion will erupt and relationships with current and prospective customers could be injured.
NBCU has yet to officially respond to the case, nor have they responded to media requests for interviews since the story first broke.
