ABC Dumps Eastwick, But Wants More Of 'The Forgotten'

Warner Bros. TV can finish 13-episode order, but then the show is done

It had some star power like Rebecca Romjin and a connection to a popular film. In the end, however, "Eastwick" was just not meant to be.

ABC opted not to order any more episodes beyond its original 13, effectively canceling the series after seven episodes. Instead, the network has decided to continue producing another Warner Bros. Television product, "The Forgotten," a crime drama starring Christian Slater and Michelle Borth.

"Eastwick" averaged a 3.9 rating/7 share Wednesday nights, according to Fast National overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co. It lost more than 26 percent of its lead-in audience from the Courteney Cox vehicle "Cougar Town," and was typically one of ABC's lowest-rated programs.

"The Forgotten" averaged a 5.3/9 after seven episodes, holding strong against "The Good Wife" on CBS, despite losing nearly 42 percent of its "Dancing With the Stars" lead-in. It is a middle-of-the-pack show for ABC, typically finishing just behind "FlashForward" and "Modern Family" in the network's largest audience.

The network wants five more episodes of "The Forgotten," which will bring its total to 18 for the season. The show is executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman.

The original 1987 movie "Witches of Eastwick," based on the novel by John Updike, starred Cher, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jack Nicholson. A pilot was made in 1992 that starred Ally Walker, Julia Campbell, Catherine Mary Stewart and Michael Siberry, and again in 2002 starring Kelly Rutherford, Marcia Cross, Lori Loughlin, and James O'Mara. Neither pilot was picked up.

"Eastwick" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, while "The Forgotten" airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
