'Glee' Earns Itself A Second Season
PLUS: Producers will host a reality-based talent search for new characters
Living up to its name, fans of "Glee" have one more reason to be full of high-spirited delight ... Fox have given the all singing, all dancing series an early pick-up for a second year.
Of course, with the reputation the series has earned during its first thirteen episodes there wasn't much question on if a renewal would happen, but rather, when. Since its debut, the musical drama has amassed substantial critical praise and has already earned four Golden Globe nominations including best television series, musical or comedy
"We've loved 'Glee' ever since it was a pilot script, so it's been an incredible thrill to watch the show take root and see audiences embrace these characters in such a huge way this season," Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said. "The show is a true and rare gem in television. We couldn't be more proud of what Ryan Murphy and the 'Glee' team have created so far and can't wait to see what they come up with for Season Two."
But one area where season two will mix things up is in how it expands its cast; forget traditional style auditions, "Glee" will be hosting its first "American Idol" style talent search for three new characters that will be joining the show. The audition process, which will be open to both amateurs and professionals alike, will be televised as a special series in the run up to the second season premiere.
"Glee" returns for the remainder of its first season on April 13.
