Bear McCreary Finds Balance Between 'Caprica,' 'Battlestar'

Fan-fave composer special guest on Thursday's Alpha Waves Radio

One of the most distinctive elements to Syfy's "Battlestar Galactica" was its sound.

Scored by Bear McCreary, the music from the series has gathered substantial acclaim and has propelled McCreary to newer projects, including the NBC medical series "Trauma" and the new Fox series "Human Target." Despite the thrill of composing for big network shows there is one project that McCreary is particularly excited about ... "Caprica."

The "Battlestar Galactica" prequel, which will feature the development of the Cylons - not to mention the beginning of the end for Humanity - and a lot of Human drama, demands a very different atmosphere to its dark-themed predecessor.

"I did want to change the music and try something different because it is a very different series" from "Battlestar Galactica," McCreary told Airlock Alpha during an interview for Alpha Waves Radio. "It needed to be more intimate, more familiar, more classical, and pull away from the raw tribal energy that was in 'Battlestar.'"
