Roddenberry, Imagine Entertainment To Revive 'Questor Tapes'

No idea yet if it would end up with a network or on cable (or anywhere)

You can be forgiven for thinking "Star Trek" when you hear the name Gene Roddenberry. It may have been his most successful production but it is by no means his only one ... and one of his concepts is about to be re-introduced to television.

"The Questor Tapes", a series about an android with incomplete memory tapes searching for his creator, is about to breathe new life thanks to Roddenberry's son, Eugene W. Roddenberry. The series was originally filmed as a pilot episode in 1974 and despite a very ambitious premise was never picked up for a series run. Some even suggest that the Questor character was the original inspiration for the android Data in "The Next Generation."

Now though, Roddenberry Productions and Imagine Entertainment are working to resurrect the series and are close to signing a deal with Tim Minear, known for his close working relationship with Joss Whedon in projects like "Angel," "Firefly" and "Dollhouse." Roddenberry and Imagine are still looking to wrap up negotiations with Minear to bring him on board.

"My father always felt that 'Questor' was the one that got away," the younger Roddenberry said in a release. "He believed that the show had the potential to be bigger than 'Star Trek.'"

Of course, this isn't the first time Roddenberry's works have returned to television. In 1997, Tribune Entertainment launched "Earth: Final Conflict" based on his "Battleground: Earth" script and, shortly afterwards, also brought a few of his different concepts together to develop "Andromeda."
