'Caprica' Attracts Small Premiere Audience, As Expected

Pilot episode had already been sold on DVD, released for free on Web

a massive audience for its first episode; after all, it was released on DVD last year and was released for free online.

"Battlestar Galactica's" prequel spin-off series debuted to 1.6 million viewers -- still a respectable number for a cable channel -- but a very weak start for a new show making its launch. And, when compared with the ratings of its parent series the number only looks that little bit more fragile.

The pilot episode has already been seen by almost 2 million viewers thanks to the online episode and the availability of the DVD, which brings the total viewership of the pilot up to around 3.6 million ... a number far above the current breadwinner for Syfy, "Stargate: Universe."

Numbers are expected to increase once the series kicks off properly with the first brand new episode being premiered on Friday. The pilot episode ratings are also expected to increase once DVR episodes are taken into account.
