'American Idol,' 'Saturday Night Live' Changes Roll On
Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler eye the judge's chair as Kara DioGuardi departs; 'SNL' adds to cast
Its still not known who the new "American Idol" panelists will be but we do know who isnt returning to the panel.
First Simon Cowell, then Ellen DeGeneres declared they were no longer judges. This weekend, Kara DioGuardi confirmed the rumors that she was not returning. This had been buzzed about for weeks so the official confirmation was not a surprise.
At this point, the only judge that for sure will be sitting on the panel is Randy Jackson. Joining him may be Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, but there is no "official" word from Fox. Tyler's possible involvement is just the latest setback for Aerosmith, whose lead guitarist, Joe Perry, is not happy about the development, according to the Calgary Herald.
Time is getting short to name the final panel as the "official" auditions begin soon (the giant stadiums full of people are the initial auditions; the judges don't get involved until at least two rounds of preliminaries are over). Producer Nigel Lythgoe confirmed at the Emmys that he wanted the uncertainty over soon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Saturday Night Live" starts Season 36 with new cast members. First, Will Forte and Jenny Slate (who famously dropped the f-bomb in her debut and now has a viral hit with "Marcel The Shell With Shoes On") will not be rejoining the cast.
New members are Taran Killam, Paul Brittain, Vanessa Bayer and Jay Pharoah. Amy Poehler will host the Sept. 25 debut, with Katy Perry as musical guest.
Bryan Cranston hosts the Oct. 2 show, followed by Jane Lynch on Oct. 9. Both stars are recent Emmy winners.
