'Hawaii Five-0' Earns Place As Fall's Best New Show
CBS dominating schedule with five new shows topping all others
CBS has been advertising "Hawaii Five-0" -- the remake of the Jack Lord classic -- as the fall's No. 1 new show. And they're absolutely right.
The new series starring Alex O'Loughlin, Grace Park, Daniel Dae Kim and Scott Caan, leads a pack of new shows, where the top five slots are all owned by CBS. So it's not only the best overall, but the best from a network that won the ratings wars last year, and has fresh new programming ready to continue that streak for some time to come.
After three episodes, "Hawaii Five-0" is averaging an 8.0 rating/13 share. This past week, it was CBS' eighth most-watched program, tying with the popular "Big Bang Theory," and finishing 4 percent above the network's average this week. It even made the top 10 overall in its debut week, the only new show to have done that so far since the season officially started.
While CBS is bragging a lot about "Hawaii Five-0," it has others it can cheer for, too. "Blue Bloods," its new Friday series starring Tom Selleck, is proving that shows can work on at the start of the weekend, coming in as the fall's second best-performing new show with a 7.3/13 average, just ahead of the top new comedy of the fall, "Mike & Molly," with a 7.3/11. None of the shows are performing as well as "The Good Wife" did in its first season with CBS, but they're not terribly far off.
"The Defenders" has been slipping a bit for CBS, losing 22 percent of its premiere audience, but its still holding on to the No. 4 slot among new shows with a 6.7/12 average, just ahead of the William Shatner series "#$*! My Dad Says."
CBS has only debuted five new shows so far, which is probably why they don't have control of No. 6, a slot that belongs to "Law & Order: Los Angeles," using a lead-in from sister show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" to average a 6.1/11 so far this season. ABC's best show comes in at No. 7 with "Detroit 1-8-7," which has an audience slightly better than "No Ordinary Family."
Fox comes in at No. 11 with "Better With You," which may get better over time, but doubtful.
In terms of the shows holding on to their audiences the best, the title does not belong to "Hawaii Five-0" but instead to "Mike & Molly," based on shows that are still on the air and in the top 10. It has an Audience Loyalty Index Rating of 96.5, meaning that nearly 97 percent of the total audience that has tuned in to see at least one episode of "Mike & Molly" is coming back regularly each week. "Better With You" is right behind with a 95.1 ALI.
The worst show in holding its audience is "Outlaw" on NBC with Jimmy Smits, which has lost more than 40 percent of its overall audience since moving to Fridays.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that include both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
