CBS Wins Fifth Consecutive Week Behind 'NCIS'

ABC has 'Dancing,' but it's not making up for other network duds

CBS won't let up, once again taking the weekly crown for the networks based on overnight ratings of first-run, non-event, non-news programming, earning a 7.3 rating/12 share average, and besting ABC by 7 percent despite the Disney-owned channel putting up three of the top four rated programs of the week, thanks to "Dancing With the Stars."

However, ABC once again was hurt by the lower end of its schedule, with shows like freshman comedy "Better With You" managing a 4.1/7, and longtime reality show "America's Funniest Home Videos" picking up just a 3.8/7. ABC had just six shows above the 7.0 household rating mark, while CBS had 11 shows finishing above that mark, and not a single show below a 4.0 household rating -- "Medium" getting the lowest ratings with a 4.0/8 on Friday.

CBS was led, as usual, by NCIS with an 11.5/18, followed by "NCIS: Los Angeles" with a 9.8/15 and "The Mentalist" with a 9.3/16. "The Amazing Race" inexplicably shot up 43 percent from the previous week to a 9.0/15 that helped its season average improve to a 7.4/12, but lower its Audience Loyalty Index Rating to an 82.5. That means that of everyone who tuned in to see "The Amazing Race" for just one episode this year, only 83 percent of the audience is returning to watch every episode.

That number is expected to be only a spike, and will likely return to closer to the 6.3 household ratings it's received the last couple weeks.

Fox and NBC, however, couldn't get a single show to meet the 7.0 household mark, as both battled for third and fourth. "Glee" remains the highest-rated program on Fox, earning a 6.6/10 followed by a 5.8/10 for "Bones" and a 5.7/9 for "House."

NBC's best mark came from "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" with a 5.3/9 followed by "Law & Order: Los Angeles," which picked up a 5.0/9.

Fox, which seems to be continuing to carry "Running Wilde" and "The Good Guys" on its schedule despite a 2.3/4 and a 1.5/3 respectively, earned a 3.9/6, good for third place, while NBC watched "School Pride" bomb with CW-like numbers, and stayed in fourth with a 3.7/6.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that include both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
