'Bones' Spin-Off In The Works
PLUS: New villain will kill a recurring character
Based on the books by Kathy Reichs, Fox's "Bones" is about to get its very own spin-off ... from another book series.
The crime-busting romantic comedy series will be introducing a new recurring character during the sixth season who could very well go on to have his own show. The character, Walter Sherman, will be based on "The Locator" novels by Richard Greener and will provide crucial assistance to Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Dechannel) on a few cases throughout the season.
According to Deadline, he is described as "an eccentric, obstreperous and amusing reclusive man in his late 20s-30s with highly sought after abilities to find anything. He is skeptical of every statement and often asks offensive, seemingly irrelevant questions which oddly enough turn out to be extremely relevant. A former military policeman, Walter knows Agent Booth from their time serving in Iraq together, and the two dislike each other very much."
However, although Booth will find the man tiresome Brennan will find his skills fascinating. Casting for the role is already underway and the first episode to feature Sherman is slated to begin filming on Dec. 6. Should the spin-off go ahead, the show is expected to be helmed by Hart Hanson, who adapted "Bones" out of Reichs' novels in 2006.
Meanwhile, another recurring role on "Bones" has just been filled by Arnold Vosloo, the man many will recognise as the villain in "The Mummy" and, more recently, "24." Vosloo will be joining the series for at least three episodes this season as the new big bad - an evil sniper named Jacob Ripkin Broadsky.
Gormogon turned out to be a bitter disappointment to fans of the series (especially when the identity of his apprentice was revealed) but the Gravedigger captured the attention of viewers as an evil version of Dr. Brennan. Well, Vosloo is set to become an evil version of Booth and it has been revealed will be responsible for the death of a major recurring character on the series.
Weve got someone worse than the Gravedigger coming, Hart Hanson said, according to Entertainment Weekly. And if the Gravedigger is Evil Brennan, this [guy] is Evil Booth. Remember, Booth was a sniper.
"Bones" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
