Dane Cook Washing Up On 'Hawaii Five-0'
Funnyman set to make rare appearance on series television
CBS’s freshman series ‘Hawaii Five-0’ has cast comedian Dane Cook for at least one upcoming episode, airing in February. Cook will play the brother of Danny ‘Danno’ Williams (Scott Caan).
According to show runner Peter Lenkov, the previously-unseen Williams brother is “going to come out to Hawaii for a visit.” Lenkov hasn’t let slip if Cook’s character will share the same snarky, playful relationship with Alex O’Loughlin’s Steve McGarrett that Danny does.
This dynamic -- and O’Loughlin’s abs -- is at the heart of the success of this re-imagined series.
The guest-starring role is a departure for Cook. Outside of his comedy specials, he hasn’t made an appearance on a scripted comedy television since the 1990s.
Rather, his previous acting experience has been largely limited to the big screen. His recent film credits include “My Best Friend’s Girl,” “Dan in Real Life,” and “Mr. Brooks.”
"Hawaii Five-0" has been enjoying some success in its first year, though ratings are down from its debut earlier this fall. The show has been using its early episodes to try to add dimension to the cast of characters, bringing in guest stars like Jean Smart, James Marsters, Masi Oka, and Taryn Manning.
“Bones” nerd Joel David Moore will appear in an episode shortly before Cook’s arrival but will surely prove much less polarizing with fans than the controversial comedian.
New episodes of "Hawaii Five-0" will return January 3 at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
