Zooey Deschanel May Headline Fox Comedy Pilot
The indie film actress eyeing a move to the small screen
Quirky, indie sweetheart Zooey Deschanel is reportedly in talks to star in a new pilot for Fox.
The untitled single-camera comedy is the brainchild of Liz Meriwether, writer of the current big-screen hit “No Strings Attached,” which stars Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher.
Deschanel would star as Jessica, an elementary school teacher who is unlucky in love. After her most recent break-up, she moves out of the apartment she shared with her ex and moves in with a trio of less than responsible guys. The pilot was originally titled “Chicks and Dicks.”
If the actress agrees to headline the show, she wouldn’t be the only family member in the fold at Fox. Her sister, Emily Deschanel, stars on the Fox hit “Bones.”
The role of Jessica would mark the first regular television role for Deschanel, who has appeared on Showtime’s “Weeds” in a brief role and guest-starred opposite her sister on “Bones”.
The actress is best known for her film work, which includes “Elf,” “(500) Days of Summer,” “Almost Famous” and this year’s Sundance flick, “My Idiot Brother.”
