Ricci, King, Potts Headlining New Shows
More film stars coming to television...
Besides the return of veteran television actors Tim Allen and Don Johnson, film stars -- such as Zooey Deschanel, Maria Bello, Amanda Peet, Ethan Hawke and Ed Burns -- who have already closed deals. And that list is growing longer day by day.
Christina Ricci has closed a deal to star in ABC’s “Pan Am”, a 1960s-era drama about flight attendants and pilots at Pan Am Airlines.
Ricci will play Maggie, a stewardess with a double life. She is the perfect picture of an airline stewardess – beautiful, perfect groomed and poised. However, off duty, she lives among the bohemian beatniks and intellectuals who inhabited Greenwich Village in the 60s.
Australian actress Margot Robbie has also been cast as a flight attendant while Michael Mosley (“Scrubs”) will play one of the pilots.
“Pan Am” is from Sony Pictures TV. Nancy Hult Ganis, an executive producer, was a Pan Am flight attendant in the 1970s. The script was written by Jack Orman, an executive producer/writer for “ER”, and will be directed by Thomas Schlamme. He is best known for his work on “The West Wing” and “Mr. Sunshine.”
This is Ricci’s first starring television role. She has appeared in guest arcs for shows like ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2006 and TNT’s “Saving Grace” in 2009.
Known for her breakout roles in the movies “Mermaids” and “The Addams Family” when she was young, Ricci has earned critical raves for her work in films like “Buffalo 66”, “The Ice Storm” and “The Opposite of Sex.” The actress can next be seen in the films “Bel Ami” and “Born to be a Star,” which is co-written and produced by Adam Sandler.
Actress and producer Jaime King will co-star opposite Rachel Bilson in CW’s drama pilot, “Hart of Dixie.” King will play one of the “Blue Belles,” an elite group of southern debutante types who re-enact the town’s history in period dress. “Hart of Dixie” is from WBTV and Fake Empire and was written by Leila Gerstein.
The multi-talented Annie Potts has been chosen for a lead role in “Good Christian Bitches,” an ABC dramedy pilot from writer/ executive producer Robert Harling and executive producer Darren Star (“Sex and the City”). The show is based on the novel by Kim Gatlin.
Leslie Bibb (“Confessions of a Shopaholic,” “Iron Man”) will play the lead role of Amanda. After a divorce, she moves back to the affluent Dallas neighborhood where she grew up only to find herself surrounded by the world of Botox, gossip and scheming. Potts is set to play Gigi, Amanda’s overbearing mother.
The actress was one of the most courted performers this pilot season, fielding 3 offers before choosing “Bitches.” She has also been approached to do a guest spot on “Hart of Dixie”.
Best known for her roles as Janine in “Ghostbusters” and Mary Jo in “Designing Women”, Potts recently appeared on Broadway in “God of Carnage.” She is rumored to be appearing in “Ghostbusters 3,” which remains in development.
