Darren Criss Interested In 'Glee' Spinoff

Actor wouldn't mind finding a way to continue his popular character

The Warblers are very popular with fans, as is their leader, Blaine.

But could Darren Criss take the singer with the winning smile over to a new show? There is some interest -- especially if it means staying in the "Glee" universe.

"Hey, I'm just happy to be invited to the party," Criss told reporters at the Oxygen Upfront Presentation last week in New York. "A spinoff, whatever they want. I'm happy where I am."

The 24-year-old stage actor has already appeared in nine episodes of "Glee," and is expected to be in a few more before this season is over. His character, Blaine, was a mentor to Kurt Hummel - played by soprano Chris Colfer - and has become an instant hit with fans. He even created some controversy last month when Blaine and Kurt sealed their new relationship with a kiss.

And although he joined "Glee" in the second season, the actor's interest in the show dates back to before the show was even cast, trying out for the role of Finn, later won by Cory Monteith.

"I think Blaine serves a really cool function in the grander scheme of 'Glee,' so I don't think we need to focus particularly" on a spinoff, Criss said. "But if they want to do it, hey, I'm down. Whatever they want."

No one from Fox or from "Glee" have indicated any spinoff is in the works, so any such talk is speculation at this point.

Ratings for "Glee" have soared in the second season, growing nearly 25 percent -- bigger than any other program this year. It's also Fox's highest-rated scripted program, an amazing feat especially considering it's not grouped in any way with television's No. 1 program, "American Idol."

It's also doing well despite being up against television's top-rated scripted program, "NCIS" on CBS.

"Glee" holds down the Tuesday schedule, kicking off a night that includes the critically acclaimed (but ratings challenged) "Raising Hope."

"Glee" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
