Television Journalists Create Emmy Rerun With Awards
For what it's worth, 'Mad Men' and 'Modern Family' are winners
If you missed the Emmy awards last year, don't worry. The Broadcast Television Journalists Association has your back.
The group, which recently expanded beyond the Broadcast Film Critics Association -- the group that hands out the Critics Choice Awards -- is now honoring television as well. Even if it's television from a year ago.
In any event, "Mad Men" earned honors for best drama series while "Modern Family" took the comedy side of the award. Both shows won Emmys in similar categories last year.
But that's where the awards diverge from the Emmys. Winning best actress in a drama series was Julianna Marguiles for the CBS show "The Good Wife" while Tina Fey won best actress in a comedy. Emmy winners in similar categories last year were Edie Falco for "Nurse Jackie" and Kyra Sedgwick for "The Closer."
He didn't win an Emmy last year, but Jon Hamm did take the best acting award from the critics for his work on "Mad Men," a category which "Breaking Bad's" Bryan Cranston repeated. Jim Parsons, who won an Emmy for his comedy work on CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" was a repeat winner with the critics, taking a similar award there.
Neil Patrick Harris won best supporting actor in a comedy for "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS. And what is a bit of a surprise (mostly because the Emmys have never been too fond of science-fiction shows), John Noble was honored with a supporting actor in a drama for the Fox series "Fringe."
The awards were handed out during a luncheon in Los Angeles Monday, according to Broadcasting & Cable. It's not clear who all the nominees were, and if any of the award winners were present to accept their awards.
Speaking of awards that are not the Emmys, vote for the likes of John Noble in the Airlock Alpha Portal Awards beginning June 25.
