Writers Guild Announces 2012 Nominees
'Boardwalk Empire,' 'Modern Family' among favorites
The Writers Guild of America have announced their nominees for their annual awards, celebrating the hard work of dozens of writing teams in television.
For Drama Series, nominated shows include "Boardwalk Empire" on HBO, "Breaking Bad" on AMC, "Game of Thrones" on HBO, "The Good Wife" on CBS, and "Homeland" on Showtime.
Writers for "Boardwalk Empire" include Bathsheba Doran, Dave Flebotte, Gina Gionfriddo, Howard Korder, Steve Kornacki, Itamar Moses, Margaret Nagle and Terance Winter. For "Breaking Bad," writers are Sam Catlin, Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, Gennifer Hutchison, George Mastras, Thomas Schnauz and Moira Walley-Beckett.
For "Game of Thrones," the writers are David Benioff, Bryan Cogman, Jane Espenson, George R.R. Martin and D.B. Weiss. For "The Good Wife," the only network nominated series in this category, honored writers are Courtney Kemp Agboh, Meredith Averill, Corinne Brinkerhoff, Leonard Dick, Keith Eisner, Karen Hall, Ted Humphrey, Michelle King, Robert King, Steve Lichtman, Matthew Montoya and Julia Wolfe.
Finally, for "Homeland," writers being honored include Henry Bromell, Alexander Cary, Alex Gansa, Howard Gordon, Chip Johannessen, Gideon Raff and Meredith Stiehm.
Nominees for Comedy Series include "30 Rock" on NBC, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on HBO, "Louie" for FX, "Modern Family" for ABC and "Parks & Recreation" for NBC.
Honored for "30 Rock" are Jack Burditt, Hannibal Buress, Kay Cannon, Robert Carlock, Tom Ceraulo, Vali Chandrasekaran, Tina Fey, Jon Haller, Matt Hubbard, Dylan Morgan, John Riggi, Josh Siegal, Ron Weiner and Tracey Wigfield. For "Curb Your Enthusiasm," the writers are Alec Berg, Larry David, David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer.
For "Louie," the writers are Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. For "Modern Family," which has won the top comedy Emmy for the past two years, the writers are Cindy Chupack, Paul Corrigan, Abraham Higginbotham, Ben Karlin, Elaine Ko, Carol Leifer, Steven Levitan, Christopher Lloyd, Dan O'Shannon, Jeffrey Richman, Brad Walsh, Ilana Wernick, Bill Wrubel and Danny Zucker.
For "Parks & Recreation," the writers are Greg Daniels, Katie Dippold, Daniel J. Goor, Norm Hiscock, Emily Kapnek, Dave King, Greg Levine, Aisha Muharrar, Chelsea Peretti, Amy Poehler, Brian Rowe, Michael Schur, Mike Scully, Emily Spivey, Alan Yang and Harris Wittels.
The nominees for New Series include "Episodes" on Showtime from David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik; "Game of Thrones" from Benioff, Cogman, Espenson, Marton and Weiss; "Homeland" from Bromell, Cary, Gansa, Gordon, Johannessen, Raff and Stiehm; "The Killing" from Linda Burstyn, Jeremy Doner, Soo Hugh, Dan Nowak, Nic Pizzolatto, Dawn Prestwich, Veeda Sud, Nicole Yorkin and Aaron Zelman; "New Girl" from Nick Adams, Rachel Axler, Brett Baer, Donick Cary, Dave Finkel, Berkley Johnson, Josh Malmuth, Elizabeth Meriwether, J.J. Philbin, Joe Port, Luvh Rakhe and Joe Wiseman.
For Episodic Drama, Itamar Moses was nominated for "A Dangerous Maid" from HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," while Bathsheba Doran earned a nomination for "Boardwalk Empire's" "The Age of Reason."
Two episodes of "Breaking Bad' also were nominated: Vince Gilligan for "Box Cutter" and both Thomas Schnauz and Moira Walley-Beckett for "End Times."
Henry Bromell was nominated for his "Homeland" episode "The Good Soldier," while Jace Richdale earned a nod for the "Dexter" episode "Just Let Go."
In Episodic Comedy, Steven Levitan and Jeffrey Richman were nominated for the "Modern Family" episode "Caught in the Act," while Dan O'Shannon and Illana Wernick earned a nod for "Mother's Day." Greg Daniels was recognized for his episode of "Goodbye Michael, Part 2" for "The Office" on NBC, while Stephen Falk was nominated for his "Weeds" episode of "Object Impermanence" on Showtime.
Also getting nominated were Robert Padnick for his "The Office" episode "PDA," and Tracey Wigfield for the "30 Rock" episode "Queen of Jordan."
