Fox Gives 'Kitchen Nightmares' Another Season

Gordon Ramsay will be back to help even more restaurants turn around

Chef Gordon Ramsay will be out fixing "Kitchen Nightmares" for another year, after Fox greenlit another 16-episode season.

The reality series, where Ramsay visits stumbling restaurants and helps revive them, is one of Fox's lowest-rated programs, but has been pretty solid on Friday nights for the network. It's averaged a 2.3 rating/4 share in Fast National overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co. through the end of January, down just 2 percent from last year. It's ranked No. 19 out of 21 Fox shows, and is No. 86 overall.

"It's great to be back for a with season ... who knew there were that many nightmares to be had?" Ramsay said in a statement, according to Fox Toledo.

"Kitchen Nightmares" premiered in September 2007 and has produced nearly 60 episodes so far. It's an American version of "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" which aired for five years on Britain's Channel 4.

Ramsay was born in Scotland but raised in Warwickshire, England, and was actually an aspiring soccer player before injuring his knee while trying out for one of the professional teams. Soon after, he focused more on his culinary career, becoming head chef of La Tante Claire in 1993 and opening his own restaurant in 1998. It was about that time he started to appear on television as part of the documentaries "Boiling Point" in 1998 and "Beyond Boiling Point" in 2000.

Ramsay is also host of the reality competition series "Hell's Kitchen," a summer Fox series where would-be chefs compete in a high-stressed atmosphere to win. That show premiered in May 2005 and has since aired nine seasons.

"Kitchen Nightmares" airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
